A pleasing salmon pink colour mixed with onion skin hues. As with all the Long Gully Estate wines, an immediate positive impression comes from the aromatics.  Fresh, young and with a lovely soft texture, it is a mouthfilling style with notes of florals and slight tropical touches. It is also seamless and finishes with a fine flick of acidity. Should drink well for several years plus ideal for chilling and enjoying on a summer afternoon.

From the Yarra Valley, this is an impressive Cabernet. Dark magenta in colour, the nose offers classic cigar box notes, black fruits, mocha, coffee beans and tobacco leaves. It is both concentrated, and elegant, and walks that tightrope with ease. Balanced, good acidity, appealing freshness and serious length. This appeals now but has real potential to impress further over the next decade. The only criticism is that it is a fraction too young at the moment. A wine which reminds us that Cabernet was really the first red varietal to star in the Valley.

Bright crimson in colour, with a rather compelling nose, this single vineyard Pinot Noir from the Yarra Valley is quite brambly. Dry herbs, red fruits, animal skins, this is surprisingly complex for such a young wine and augurs well for its future. If there is new oak here, it has been kept to a minimum. The same applies to the use of whole bunches – everything is in ideal balance with a hint of bacon fat on the palate which is quite silky with soft tannins and good length. Like this a lot and it is undoubtedly a wine with potential. Five years on its ear.

A lovely Chardonnay by any standards. It would score higher, for me, if it had been given another 12 months in the cellar before release. Just a bit too youthful at the moment. But a small quibble and one soon fixed. From the Yarra Valley, pale straw with a glint of green. There is a hint of cashew and nutmeg oak. In 6 to 12 months, this should be fully integrated and very much a positive. Fragrant nose, lemon with a touch of the tropicals. Fresh, vibrant with good concentration and intensity throughout with attractive peach notes emerging on the palate. Drink now although it will improve over the next 4 to 5 years.
